JAKARTA, Jan. 17 (Xinhua) -- Former Indonesian president Soeharto remains in very critical condition after being treated for 14 days due to multiple organ failure at the Pertamina Hospital here, doctors said Thursday.

"There are no signs of improving condition," said Dr. Mardjo Soebiandono, who leads a large doctor team overseeing Soeharto.

"His heart and lungs didn't recover and we detected a systemic infection," he told a press conference at the hospital.

The latest examination still found excessive fluids inside the lungs, as Soeharto depends on machine to breathe, he added.

Soeharto is Indonesia's longest president with his military-backed regime ruling the country for 32 years. He stepped down from power following nationwide protests against his corrupt and repressive government in May 1998.
